Leonardo da Vinci was an Italian Renaissance genius — a painter, scientist, engineer, inventor, and thinker. He is often called the “universal man” because of his unmatched curiosity and creativity across so many fields.

Born on April 15, 1452, in Vinci, a small town near Florence, Italy — that’s why he’s called “da Vinci” (meaning “from Vinci”).
He was the illegitimate son of a notary, Ser Piero, and a peasant woman, Caterina.
Showed early talent in drawing and science, and apprenticed with Andrea del Verrocchio, a famous artist in Florence.
